While many in the industry are genuinely trying to be eco-friendly, the scale at which they operate often works against them. Water consumption is staggering. Even with recycling efforts, the sheer volume of water required to produce paper on a global scale is immense. Then there's the issue of chemicals. Bleaching, essential for achieving that pristine white paper, introduces a cocktail of chemicals that can be harmful to our ecosystems. And let's not forget the energy consumption and the carbon footprint of transporting paper products worldwide.

Shaking Things Up

Realising the environmental challenges of the paper industry, I was determined to ensure Terra Tag didn't follow the same path. Our mission was clear: to create a product that was not just sustainable in name, but in action. First, we rethought our papermaking process. Every drop of water in our studio became a testament to our commitment to sustainability. Crafting 150 sheets of our unique paper required just 40 litres of water, a stark contrast to industry norms. But the real game-changer? Our community-driven approach to sourcing materials. We reached out to governments, schools, local businesses, and printers, urging them to donate their paper waste. The response was overwhelming. Suddenly, we had a steady stream of raw materials, all of which would have otherwise ended up in landfills. This wasn't just recycling; it was upcycling, giving discarded paper a new, purposeful life. Our philosophy of reduce, reuse, and recycle isn't just a tagline; it's the backbone of our operation.
